Synopsis: [?] [From The Moving Picture World]? Entirely unsuspecting of any impending trouble, Dr. Clinton is arrested as he is leaving his home. He is tried and convicted on circumstantial evidence and sentenced to life imprisonment. Dr. Clinton sees a chance of escaping from his imprisonment, and with the assistance of a fellow prisoner, climbs over the prison walls and thus flees. As he is running away, he arrives at a cabin, where a mother and her sick child are alone. He asks to be given admission, but is refused. He thereupon forces the lock off the door. Once inside he asks the woman for clothes to hide his stripes. She gives him a suit. She then makes him get water from the well. On his return he notices that the child is afflicted with a very severe cough, and proceeds to wrap it in a flannel blanket. He holds her over boiling water, into which have been thrown some herbs. The child is allowed to breathe the vapors of these herbs, and subsequently he places the child in bed. In the meantime, the sheriff and his men have arrived. When the doctor is assured of the child’s recovery, he holds out both hands for the steel manacles. The mother’s appreciation of the doctor’s attention to her child compels her to plead mercy for him. As the sheriff and his aides lead him away, tears roll down her cheeks in sympathy and gratitude for his kindness.
